A Busy Six Months of Silo Updates, and a Call for Requests!
3D Modeling / May 10th, 2018     A+ | a-

Did you know we've been hard at work on Silo? It's been a busy six months! Here's a summary of the recent improvements:

Smoothing Groups/Hard Edges
A much-requested feature, especially for hard surface modeling. Creating hard edges with smooth shading lets you define smooth/hard-edged sections of your model without having to increase geometry density.

3D Text
Silo now has a 3D text generator which works with any font on your system. Specify font, size, resolution, depth of extrusion, and tessellation.

FBX Materials and Textures
Materials and textures have been added to our FBX format support.

High Resolution Displays (High DPI)
Another much-requested feature. Silo is now compatible with high-resolution displays.

Ambient + Diffuse Color Chooser
This small addition to the materials editor is a great timesaver: change a material's ambient and diffuse colors together at the same time.

Live Textures
Textures of any file format are now auto-updated on the model when their file changes, so you can easily see changes as you work without having to reload.

PSD Support
PSD documents can now be loaded directly into Silo for textures, viewport backgrounds, etc. This is perfect in tandem with Live Textures.

Various Fixes/Improvements
  • Fixed Save Selected Objects to only save selected objects in FBX.
  • Fixed Save Selected Objects to only save out relevant materials in all file formats.
  • Fixed an issue with Revert to Autosave filenames.
  • Fixed scrolling and selection bugs within the Scene Editor.
  • Updated Scene Editor to open expanded by default.
  • Updated Load Into Scene to select and highlight newly-added objects.
